About 'Shape Your City'

Welcome to Shape Your City!

This website is a one-stop-shop for civic engagement and community empowerment in London. It provides information for individuals wishing to learn about and better understand regional and national policy on community empowerment, as well as guidance and resources for service providers and practitioners looking to improve community empowerment in their area. Most importantly, however, the Shape Your City website provides numerous opportunities for direct engagement, enabling and empowering Londoners to share their views and shape their city.

While the main London Civic Forum site provides members and users with information about London governance, Shape Your City seeks to engage people in policy and decision-making in the capital. This site hosts our new  Empowerment Map, which visually depicts empowerment activities taking place across the region.  In addition, online tools for engagement- such as the discussion forums, consultations and surveys- have been designed to encourage Londoners to share their views on issues and policies of local, regional and national importance.  By gathering members’ feedback and comments in this way, London Civic Forum will be better positioned to support our members in influencing policy issues and generally promote civic engagement in London.

In addition to engagement tools, users will also find guidance and support for individuals and organisations  who wish to better understand how to get involved. Various resources and toolkits are also available to support practitioners to better engage with individuals and communities in their area. All of our resources are free and available to download from this website. In addition, London Civic Forum will gladly provide hard copies of any of these resources, as well as alternative formats (large print, etc) if required.

Do I have to be a member to use the Shape Your City website?

London Civic Forum is a membership organisation, and much of our work is driven by the policies and issues our members have identified as priorities to them.  While much of the information on this website and the main London Civic Forum site is available to all, we have limited participation in the online discussion forums and consultations to London Civic Forum members. This ensures that our organisation continues to provide a virtual space where members are empowered to have a say in those policies, strategies and initiatives that affect their lives.

Becoming a London Civic Forum member is FREE. By becoming a member, you have the opportunity to use your expertise to influence the future of London. For more information, please visit the Members Area of the website.
