Young Kingston's aim is to help young people living or going to school in the borough, to make the most of life's opportunities and benefit their local community. Examples could be improving a neglected site, working with older people to bring variety to their lives, putting on a show, learning a new skill, developing a talent and using it to help others.
It is a charitable organisation that provides grants for young people for projects that improve the quality of life for people living in Kingston upon Thames all the while improving their skills and talents. Once ideas have been generated and developed, they are then responsible for carrying out the project, and assessing the outcomes and results afterwards. There is a very strong mentoring component to this project; in fact, that is currently the major role of adults. While young people are responsible for all aspects of the project itself, adults are there to provide support, advice, guidance, and teaching to whoever needs it.
