The Youth Council's aim is to give young people a voice, and a way of expressing their own needs, wants, and opinions. Young people are not just involved in the consultation process, they are also needed to take an active part in the management and organisation of the Council, and to be aware of the issues involved in implementing new projects and initiatives.
The Youth Council holds a meeting 2 times per month, and is organised and chaired by young people. Elections are held twice a year to elect the chair. Young people are involved in all aspects of the Council, from setting the agenda to recruiting members. During the meetings, new issues or concerns are raised, and ongoing projects are discussed and reviewed. Afterwards, the YC may choose to form subgroups of members who focus on one specific issue which has been previously identified as important during the larger meetings. Again, these subgroups are managed and organised by young people
